Does anyone have trouble with cutting their fingernails and toenails?

Hi all, I know this may sound a bit gross to some of you but I would like to know if any of you have trouble cutting your fingernails and toenails. I can cut mine but it is somewhat difficult for me. I'm trying to find an easier way to do it. Does anybody have any suggestions? Should I use a regular nail clipper or manacure scissors?

I bite my fingernails. I just file my toenails and have the foot doctor cut them when I go, which is pretty often due to foot problems.

just a regular clipper works fine, I never had any trouble cutting mine, but a file will work as well.

I cut and file both with regular clipper and the in-built file.
Toe nails are more difficult than finger, however.

I can do it now but i used to find it difficult. My mam used to do it for me until i went to England to study so i had to learn. It needs practice but at the end you can manage it.

And i used the regular nail clippers.

yeah, I bite my fingernails too, and just use clippers on my toe nails. I never really had much trouble. A file works too, but I prefer just to cut them.

LOL, I didn't mean I bite my fingernails as a solution for how to cut them. It's just been a bad habit of mine ever since I was a kid. But I still half to file rough edges sometimes.

There's nothing wrong with getting a manicure or pedicure even for men. I hear a lot of men do it. And even if you do it just once just to get your nails in good shape, maybe you will have an easier time keeping them looking nice from that point on.

i bite my fingernails too, and as for my toenails, my mom usually cuts them. i don't think it's safe for blind people to do it themselves, but that's just me.

I have a question for those who bite their fingernails. What do fingernails taste like? lol I would think that they don't taste like anything.

Post 11 by HauntedReverie (doing the bad mango) on Sunday, 24-Sep-2006 17:30:26

nah, they really don't have a taste and it's not a solution for cutting them lol. it's a bad habot for me too Becky.
Um, not safe for blind people to cut their nails? I assure you, using clippers is perfectly safe and ok.

No they don't have a taste. It's just a "nervous" habit. When I was a kid, my mom used some kind of clear nail polish on my fingernails that had a bitter taste and was supposed to help people stop biting. But it didn't work. Even with the bad taste, I kept right on biting.

And as for safety of cutting your own toenails when you're blind, I think most blind people probably can do it safely. However, if you have diabetes and have lost some feeling in your toes, it is definitely not a good idea to cut your own toenails.

I dont' have a problem cutting or filing my nails. Like Becky said, it's okay for a blind person to cut their own nails, as long as they feel comfortable with it. And, as she pointed out, you shouldn't do it if you have diabetes. My dad, (well, stepdad), has diabetes, and he's not blind, but he has my mom do his nails for him, because of the diabetes.

I bite mine but regular scissors also work both fingers and toes. However on my toes what I do and this probably isn't good either along with biting is for toes if the nail is above the skin is I use my finger nail to pick at my toe nails until they come loose enough that I can just tare them off. This doesn't hurt if you don't dig too hard.

i have diminished sensation in my feet, that's why i said that. as for biting my fingernails, it's just a bad habit.

I use a razer blade knife to get my finger and toe nails, it does a better job of an even cut just make sure you don't slice the crap out of your toe nails.

Jees Jared! That sounds dangerous.

Post 19 by HauntedReverie (doing the bad mango) on Monday, 25-Sep-2006 5:35:39

yeah, that, is dangerous

Post 20 by The Roman Battle Mask (Making great use of my Employer's time.) on Monday, 25-Sep-2006 5:37:40

Na it isn't, my dad did it, so when I was like 10 I decided I'd try as well.

Post 21 by south park fan (the Zone BBS remains forever my home page) on Monday, 25-Sep-2006 11:48:04

Hey people, don't believe what Jared says. That sounds like it would be very dangerous especially for a blind person. I would NEVER try it.

Post 22 by The Roman Battle Mask (Making great use of my Employer's time.) on Monday, 25-Sep-2006 12:32:48

It's dangerous if your fucking stupid and don't know how to use a knife, or if you have limited feeling in either your fingers or toes. DOn't be upset south park fan just because I never had problems cutting my toe nails, and I'm skilled and smart enough to do it with a knife.

I just don't understand why using a knife would be anyone's first choice.

still gnaw at my fingernails. time to get a new set of achryllics, I think. I use the clippers on my toenails.

Post 25 by bea (I just keep on posting!) on Thursday, 25-Sep-2008 7:39:14

I make sure I have plenty of time and use nail clippers both on fingers and toes. Small clippers for the fingers and the large clippers for the toes. I sit on a chair and make sure I have my foot up on the chair in front of me. Then I just feel each toe and go between toes to cut edges. No, I don't cut straight but can do this. Fingers are easier. Always wanted short nails. I keep them that way.

I always end up mutilating mine... they look like bird talons and claws or something. Gotten better but still. lol, then they just get broken and within a week are pretty smooth again.
